I have compiled a list of opinions across the internet on the Bobcats draft. The general consensus is that not too many people are really enamored by the Gerald Henderson pick – they just think it was a solid move to make considering the circumstances – but many people think we got a steal in the second round with Derrick Brown. Still, the opinions vary greatly, so check them all out below.
- ESPN’s Chad Ford thinks the Bobs had a “solid draft,” and he gives them a B+. He thinks that Henderson could be the next Raja Bell, and he thinks that Brown has ridiculous upside.
- SI’s Scott Howard-Cooper isn’t so high on the Bobs, grading our draft as a B-. He doesn’t think Henderson will solve our scoring problems, but even he believes that Brown is a “nice pickup.”
- Joey Whelan of SLAM thinks the Bobs had an “excellent haul,” and hooks us up with an A-. Again, he views Brown as a “steal.”
- After chronicling the Bobcats horrendous draft history, which made me want to cry thinking about what could have been, Bobcats Baseline says that the team just had its “first intelligent, completely rational, well-scouted and well-executed draft in five years.” The team played it safe and drafted for value.
- Rufus on Fire says that Henderson won’t have too many expectations his rookie season. He just needs to improve upon Cartier Martin’s play this past season. That’s not asking for much out of a lottery pick. The blog also likes the newfound coherence to our roster.
- It’s all about depth to Rick Bonnell of the Charlotte Observer.
- Finally, Bill Simmons covered the events of draft night as they unfolded across the league in his draft diary. He has more to say about Gerald Henderson’s dad than Gerald, thinks Minnesota is stupid for not taking Stephen Curry, but he does worry about how Curry will play with Monta Ellis in an undersized Golden State backcourt.

As much as I am a fan of Duke, I don’t think Gerald Henderson is quite ready for the NBA and certainly not worth the 12 overall pick. However, Henderson is very athletic and was starting to develop his overall offensive game. He could have used another year in college and probably would have really had his coming out party. Our recommendation for the Bobcats, stop selecting players from schools in the state!
Henderson has role player written all over him. He’ll never be a star but he certainly won’t be Adam Morrison! http://doin-work.com
